Mountain Fire: 11/23 & 24

15:59 Hours. Stations 6 & 8 alerted for a possible mountain fire in the area of Locust Grove Rd. & Violet Rd. Lt. 11 (Payne) was in the area and advised the incident was indeed a mountain fire. Chief 6 (Griffith) assumed command. Command deployed Gator 8 and ATV 1 to opposite ends of the area to establish access. Aviation (Trooper 3) was requested for an aerial view. It was decided by Command and Maryland Forestry service to back the units out as darkness was becoming an issue. Units cleared 20:02
11/24: 07:15 Hours. Units regrouped to assist Md. Forestry, and deployed to Gathland State Park to make access and contain the mountain fire. The total area was 40 acres. Crews went in on foot from the Appalachian Trail and established a fire line using back pack blowers and hand tools. The fire was knocked and contained in about 5 hours. Units cleared at 14:30 hours.
